VARIAN Medical Systems have updated its planning software for Low Dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy, in which radiation doses are delivered by implanting seeds within the patient.
VariSeed 8.0, the update therapy has been developed to improve the precision and speed of the treatment processes superseded version.
Accoring to Varian, VariSpeed 8.0 is now able to target individual sectors of the prostate based on biopsy results.
This is achieved through the use of a 3-D Digital Reconstructed Radiograph (DRR) generated from a CT which allows doctors to more easily see and interactively add or remove proposed seed locations from the treatment plan.
The VariSeed 8.0 boasts ease of calibration, tabular flow and a digital connection to BK Medical's Pro Focus scanner.
Varian says VariSeed 8.0 also offers brachytherapy physicists new contouring tools, including the ability to contour in the sagittal and coronal planes.
