Stem Cell transplants help treat type one diabetes

SCIENTISTS working in the United States and Brazil have released new research data announcing a breakthrough in the treatment of type one diabetes.

In the new study, Type one, or Juvenile, diabetes has been treated by transplanting stem cells harvested from the patients own body into the blood stream.

The researchers claimed a number of patients went for up to four years without insulin injections after having had the treatment.

The treatment was first reported two years and has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The researchers believe the results are a major breakthrough in the treatment of the disease and will spark further study into the treatment through other research facilities.
