PRANA Biotechnology says Dr Craig Ritchie of Imperial College, London, presented an update on the clinical efficacy of its PBT2 drug at the 2009 International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr Ritchier’s paper, “PBT2 for Alzheimer’s Disease: An Update on Clinical Development” was part of the Featured Research Symposium, “New Horizons: From Discovery to Successful Clinical Trials” on 12 July 2009.

The presentation included key findings from Prana Biotechnology’s Phase IIa clinical trial of the PBT2 Alzheimer’s Disease treatment, as well as additional analysis of the efficacy findings.

The Lancet Neurology paper documented that patients on Prana’s PBT2 showed significant improvement in two measures of Executive Function after 12 weeks of treatment.

Dr Ritchie’s presentation included new results showing that there was a statistically significant improvement in the overall Executive Function z-score component of the Neuropsychological Test Battery in patients receiving 250mg PBT2 compared with placebo.

Prana Biotechnology is currently planning for the Phase IIb clinical trial of PBT2. It will use a longer treatment period using a much larger number of patients to confirm the efficacy of PBT2.
