Monash University in Victoria has received more than AUD$1.5 million from the Australian Research Council (ARC) as part of the 2009 ARC Linkage infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities (LIEF) scheme.

Five Monash-led applications succeeded in receiving LIEF funding. The largest grant for $500,000 will fund a bimolecular small angle X-ray scattering facility to assist in the investigation of areas such as gene regulation, immunity and fertility.

Other successful Monash-led proposals included:

  • $250,000 for an electron microscopy cryopreparation facility which will enable cell and molecular biologists and material scientists to prepare samples to use when visiting the Australian Synchrotron; and
  • $175,000 to fund ultra-high frequency non-contact vibrometry equipment for biomicrofluidics metrology which will vibrate at an unprecedented one billion cycles per second in order to enhance the rapid development of new drugs.
